Below is a list of the Maternity Practitioners general role and responsibilities.

  • Adapting to the needs of each family

  • Giving advice on all aspects of baby care- Sleep, hygiene, routines and feeding among a few.

  • Supporting the entire family by reasuring and helping each and everyone adjust to the new baby

  • Offering support and encouragement to all families.

  • Feeding Baby

  • breastfeeding management, reflux, colic & weening?

  • Making sure Mom is eating and drinking enough (Making family meals is not however a Maternity Practitioners Role)

  • organizing nursery duties (i.e sterilizing, changing, bathing & baby laundry)?

  • general care and support of your baby 24hrs a day?

As a Maternity Practitioner/ Night Nurse our role can vary dramatically from contract to contract so it is important for us to be flexible on a lot of the aspects of our role.

However, a contract is a binding contract, therefore it is important for all involved that expectations are voiced so that each party is clear on what role the Maternity Practitioner is taking on.

The The object of our stay is to encourage the family to become involved, while getting as much rest as possible. At the end of our stay the family should feel comfortable and secure in all aspects of their newborns health and care.
